Truth is such a rare thing; it is delightful to tell it. ~~Emily Dickinson

July 4, 2011, Perugia, Italy. Curt Knox and Edda Mellas were informed that their Slander trial would begin January 2012. Charges stem from a 2009 interview with a British paper in which Curt and Edda repeated Amanda’s charge that a female officer struck her twice during the illegal interrogation.

This was supposed to have been the second in a gruppetto of articles announcing a series of free bike workshops, the first of which happened a month ago. I knew at the time that the lack of publicity would probably doom the intended first meeting- I was right. But I was also amazed at the range of response I got within a few days of the article.

Delicious food! Marinated grilled salmon grilled cooked garlic bread, green salad, beans, cole slaw, hot dogs, ice tea, lemonade, ice cream.  Music by Loose Change - Activities for Kids - Family & Friends

Shark Biscuit plays surf and rock instrumentals from the golden age of the 1950's and 60's, plus a few surprises! This high-energy ensemble is six strong, and parlays reverb-soaked guitar stylings, tribal drumming and rumbling bass lines with a powerful horn section and a rockin' keyboard. Their music is highly danceable and brings smiles to all ages. The classic Shark Biscuit sound evokes tonal memories of Dick Dale, the Belairs, the Chantays, the Ventures and Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.

Asa Broomhall has done it again with his latest self-produced album ‘Revelry Road’. Recorded live over 5 days in the farmhouse where Asa grew up on the Sunshine Coast. It builds on Asa’s previous work by seamlessly combining full band tracks and solo acoustic songs showing the true depth of his songwriting and musicianship.

The Vashon Maury Island Heritage Museum is planning an exhibit for October 2011 titled ‘Home of Record: Vashon and the Viet Nam War’. A key feature of this exhibit is a special recognition in memory of  the twelve Vashon-Maury veteranswhose names are on the Vashon Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  We would like to contact any family members of these men

Sixteen Vashon Wrestlers traveled to Quincy, Washington on July 5th for a three day camp across the mountains. The camp is titled Steven Vashon's Most Interesting Wrestling Camp in the World.   All wrestlers camped out at the Wild Horse Campground and wrestled in a potato barn

“Outstanding teachers are the lifeblood of a great school, and we have an amazing group of educators joining our veteran faculty for the coming year.” – James Cardo, THS Head of School

Sometimes, something is so pervasive that you forget it is there.  A new book that my wife, Elizabeth, showed me, All That We Share: A Field Guide to the Commons, has given me another way to frame the issue of community building.

The Vashon Island Strawberry Festival literally started off with a bang at the Beer Garden Friday at 6pm. A long standing grove of trees next to Vashon Village lost one of its tree trunks when it fell west towards Vashon Highway, falling across the power lines knocking out power to the town of Vashon.

Ferry riders should plan for traffic control changes at the Fauntleroy ferry terminal in West Seattle starting July 17.

Due to budget cuts, Washington State Patrol (WSP) cadets will no longer be available to sort traffic headed to the Fauntleroy toll booths. Drivers will now be directed into the proper lanes for departure by Washington State Ferries (WSF) tollbooth attendants as they buy their tickets.

My interest in the class came from two motivations. First, I have roughed out chapter two of my spiritual autobiography ‘Because the White Rose Grew; Parenthetical Confessions of a Mystic Boomer White Woman". That chapter is entitled ‘Potter 3: Pot 0: God and Evil" . I wanted to compare what I had written with what others thought.

We seen the price of food escalate, especially, it seems, in the produce department. Our best defense: Cook Chinese. The folks in China are said to save 35% of their income. Plainly, they know how to make the most of everything. How do they do it? For one thing, few families own even one car.

Given the deep practical interest Island residents have in the Washington State ferry system (WSF) for obvious reasons, it would probably not come as any great shock to learn, somewhere in the sediments and mists of time-gone-by, that some Vashon-Maury Island residents actually participated, at least in some small way, in the creation of the Washington State ferry system.

When those ominous words came up on the screen- the truth is out there- during an episode of that gone but not forgotten show, the X-Files, they could have been understood in a number of ways. From the spatial differences implied by off world alien encounters to the paranormal weirdness of the various metaphysical battles waged by the intrepid Skully and Mulder,

Giuliano Mignini, the Public Minister of Perugia Italy, is found guilty of Abuse of Power and Corruption for falsely accusing and prosecuting Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito for the murder of Meredith Kercher.
Well, at least that is the fervent wish of every one of Amanda’s family and friends on Vashon Island.

One More Mile is a band that came together over the passion of playing real blues and making the blues real!
Guitarists Jason Lollar and Tommy Bean both have been playing since they could walk, and ever since Tommy saw Lollar performing with a band he had put together called Shakey Jake, he knew he would get together with him one day.

Remember the days of watching The Breakfast Club and playing Atari? Rewind takes you back to those days, if only for the evening...

Cordaviva is a 9-piece powerhouse of dance music influenced by the disparate rhythms and styles of the African diaspora. Their upbeat original music is a unique blend of soukous, rumba, afrobeat, funk, and various latin styles.

Northwest singer/songwriter LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends will heat up the Ober Park stage this July. Their sold out VAA show earlier this year received rave audience reviews.

Claire Green, Island artist will have a solo show at Vashon Presbyterian Church during Strawberry Festival. Hours will be 9am-5pm Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sunday.

In addition to our personal and local work, we need to keep pushing for the creation of a sustainable, low energy economy. I’ve been wanting to write about why we, as a species, fail to plan ahead, in the light of the very probable disastrous consequences of climate change.  A little story might help you see it the way I do.
