“Remembrances of Childhood”
I create worlds; safe and tranquil places where Beings can come and rest for awhile. My ideas can manifest as paintings, sculptures, or stories. The medium or style is not as important to me as the experience that my pieces evoke.

I create worlds; safe and tranquil places where Beings can come and rest for awhile. My ideas can manifest as paintings, sculptures, or stories. The medium or style is not as important to me as the experience that my pieces evoke.
In 2012, I started writing and illustrating children’s picture books. I like being able to share my art with the stories that accompany them. I am currently working on a young adult novel.
Join me at Vashon Intuitive Arts on June 3rd from 6-9.

I’m embarrassed to say it took me 15 years to finally visit the light filled and prolific studio and factory of Irene Otis, at stop number 16, our Vashon institution of tiles and insight, color and hope. It was a challenge to stay on task and take in the art, as I so much wanted to discuss issues of joy, freedom, suffering and faith, which arose in Irene’s refreshingly candid discussion of her recent trip to a Buddhist monastery in Myanmar.

Born in Seattle, 85-year-old Art Hansen remembers riding
the Vashon ferry to visit his grandparents’ beach house as a boy. His grandfather founded the Island’s first bank.

Over the decades, Hansen has honed his signature style. Iconic depictions of landscapes, flowers, forests, fishermen—and some rare humorous subjects—have become emblems of Northwest beauty and representative of Vashon’s artistic community.

Join us for a one-day sale of Hansen’s etchings, including a wide variety in both black and white and color.

For February, VALISE Artist Collective and Gallery presents our annual show of art by affiliate members, Unframed and Unhinged: The Affiliates of VALISE.

“Affiliates” of the collective pay less dues but they also don’t get to show as often. For that reason, their artistic potential backs up until it explodes onto the Vashon art scene in a wild frenzy of artistic license. Affiliates include:

The vibrant colors that trapeze across her canvases are a joy to behold. Her "Barrio Dogs" inspired by ancestors from the remote canyons of Northern Mexico are so delightful and to be experienced by all ages, they will titillate the child within.

My love and appreciation for the beauty of nature is relatively new to me. I spent most of my life unaware of how fortunate each and every one of us is to live in such a beautiful world. Like so many others, I was too focused on attaining my next goal or too lost in my own thoughts to appreciate the stunning dance of light and colors that was happening all around me. When I started walking the path of self-discovery and introspection I discovered the quieter I became inside, the more I experienced beauty in the world outside.
