Vashon Intuitive Arts (VIA), is thrilled to have local artist and businesswoman, Cara Briskman showing her work for the month of June. In Cara’s own words:
"I have been taking pictures for as long as I can remember.
From the time I was given my first camera at the age of 7 or 8 I have always had one in my hand.
I moved to Vashon in 2000 from Arizona. And it soon became clear in the Northwest I would have a bounty of opportunities to fill my need to shoot ordinary objects from my unusual perspective.
I prefer black and white photography and I find that the images take on a whole new depth and meaning when the bee’s wax is applied. I do not edit these photographs with the exception of cropping in some cases. These Photo-Encaustic pieces are limited editions of 10, however each image is unique unto itself as the application of the wax is different each time. Like a snowflake, no two are ever alike. Some of these pieces were a part of THE SEAGULL PROJECT’s Falls Gallery exhibit at ACT Theatre in Seattle this past February and Café Luna this past May.
In these pieces I hope to expose you, the viewer to see what I see, and then make your own interpretations. I see moments in time ranging from the love expressed by two hands simply holding each other to the depth of the soul of our beloved beasts reflected through their innocent eyes."
An artist’s reception will be held during the First Friday art walk this Friday June 7th from 6 to 9. VIA is located on Vashon Hwy between Giraffe and Pandora’s Box. The gift shop will be open during the reception, and treats will be served.
