"…While it was unclear whether it had come from within the confines of the tumbling vehicle, a red, white and blue malted beverage container of recent vintage was spotted amongst the debris. If it had indeed come from this car, I doubt that opting for Heineken would have led to a more favorable outcome to this situation…"

Nutrition buffs tell us we should eat fatty fish at least twice a week for the Omega 3 fats. You get them in salmon, mackerel, sardines, tuna and walnuts. We used to be told to eat fish on Fridays. But why wait? It’s good any day. This quick easy dish is similar to the Pad Thai you know and love, but juicy with coconut milk and whipped together with albacore tuna. It’s pretty enough to serve to company, and delicious.

The miles could not click off fast enough for me to get home. Hours before I had stopped in West Seattle to pick up my second Craigslist treasure of the week.

Everyone once in a while I have to rail against the constrictions of my life, mostly financial and just celebrate hope and promise.

Thinking about politics ties me in knots, because as soon as I do I feel like I’m in a funhouse maze, trying to find my way through the dark alleys and dead ends, not mention trying to parse out what’s real in the illusions created by smoke and mirrors.

Of all the iconographic television facial expressions, it is the cocked eyebrow and slightly tilted head of Leonard Nimoy’s Mr. Spock from the original Star Trek series that continues to have strong and current relevance for me. How can it not, in these times? Without saying a word, Spock could wither any wayward thought or plan or logic defying situation that arose in his proximity by simply assuming that minor facial contortion.

Were it not for the presence of Vashon’s worst fisherman, last year’s Vashon Island Salmon Derby would’ve been an even greater success.

By now the hottest weather of the year should be behind us. Down here near the water where I live, it’s already cool enough to begin baking again. If it isn’t yet at your house, it soon will be. You’ll be glad you clipped and saved today’s gluten-free banana bread recipe. It’s whole-grain, potassium-rich and deliciously sweet yet low on the glycemic index.

"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light." – Dylan Thomas

Dylan Thomas was writing of his dying father when he penned that poem in 1951, or so the story goes. You can find the complete text online or at the library or perhaps on your own bookshelf.

The overtown youth group streaming into the sanctuary had no idea the man in the front wearing a Hawaiian shirt, clicking his fingers, teaching the congregation ‘ Sweeten Me Lord’ was the person who single handedly was responsible for their Protestant youth leader to be carrying, and playing, a guitar in said sanctuary.

During this election season, we are mostly pointing our fingers at our elected officials at the national level. Whatever the problem, we expect that enacting the right laws and policies will solve it.
