The classical concert Series continues with violinist and educator Dr. Quinton Morris has played Carnegie Hall, and founded The Young Eight, the only professional African-American classical octet in the world. Morris launches his world tour on Vashon, playing the sonatas of the eighteenth century violinist, conductor and first classical composer of African origin. Accompanied by Alastair Edmonstone on piano.

This Summer, Vashon Youth Theatre (VYT) brings Carrie The Musical to Vashon Island! As a youth production, Carrie The Musical gives young island thespians a safe opportunity to explore and grapple with the real world challenges of bullying, domestic abuse and mental illness. In their place, Carrie The Musical asks the question, “What does it cost to be kind?”
This charming chamber opera written in 1947 by Benjamin Britten will have you rolling in the aisles with laughter. The busybodies of the Loxford May Day committee cannot find a virtuous female to be the May Queen, so they name the shy, coddled grocer’s son, Albert Herring, as May King.
It’s staggering to me that there are over 2,500 operas and yet today’s opera companies perform the same top 10 over and over again. This is a trend because yes - the top 10 or top 20 are great works - but also because it’s a huge financial risk for any opera company not to fill the seats for their performances. This spring folks ask “What is your spring opera?”
“My Praguers understand me”––Mozart’s famous quote is the inspiration for Vashon Maury Chamber Orchestra’s spring concert. The program features Mozart masterpieces and charismatic works by Czech composers, including the dreamy “Idyll” by Leos Janacek and a collection of movements by Smetana, Suk and Martinu.

Drama Dock is pleased to present The Curious Savage. It will open March 13 in the VHS Theatre. It is a sweet and witty comedy set in a mental institution for the rich and famous - the Betty Ford of the Forties.

This month, more than thirty local rising stars perform a kids-only adaptation of the celebrated Broadway classic Annie. The lovable crew of depression-era orphans, New Yorkers and dancing servants has been rehearsing diligently since October—and under the direction of Marita Ericksen, they are sure to put on quite the show.
Vashon Dance Academy will begin a new session on January 12th.
The Dance Academy has offered Island Dancers of all ages the opportunity to experience and excel in many forms of dance since 1996.
Rumor Has It began in 2009, when a group of long-time island musicians began loitering around a cabin on Vashon. From diverse musical backgrounds, they started jamming, pulled a rabbit out of a hat, and realized their musical destiny was string-band rock.
