The Vashon Island Shakespeare Festival’s ShakesKIDS are proud to share their work on their one hour version of Hamlet, by William Shakespeare.
This version of Hamlet, stripped of it’s political storyline, leaves all the questions of how we each individually cope and move forward in the face of a radical shift in circumstance.
When is action preferable to inaction? Does love end? What is love? When is loyalty more important than self preservation? When is self preservation more important than loyalty? Who am I when tested by fate? Who am I at all? These are questions that are asked by Shakespeare, and by all of us. The children in Vashon Island Shakespeare Festival’s ShakesKIDS, who are between the ages of 9-12 find themselves, perhaps, feeling those questions out for the first time since they came to earth. Almost every child takes a turn playing Hamlet himself and ask with this exploration: I AM HAMLET, what do I do?
Come join us DECEMBER 19th at OBER PARK PERFORMANCE SPACE for a 7:00pm showing of our work.
This production is offered to the community free of charge through Vashon Island Shakespeare Festival’s “FREE WILL” program. Children welcome, it is their world, after all.
