Rumor Has It

Rumor Has It began in 2009, when a group of long-time island musicians began loitering around a cabin on Vashon. From diverse musical backgrounds, they started jamming, pulled a rabbit out of a hat, and realized their musical destiny was string-band rock.

Five years later, after surprisingly few personnel changes, the band is still kicking it.

Roger Taylor – on guitar – came from the folk-rock world, where well-crafted songs and harmony vocals are king; Steve Amsden – on many guitars, banjo, and citern – commands a musical bazaar including at least rock, country, folk, Celtic, and bluegrass, and sells his soul to many island bands; Paul Colwell – on mandolin – has been in demand in Nashville, co-founded Up With People, and is our bluegrass elder statesman; Sarah Perlman – on fiddle –still sneaks off to play with chamber orchestras when she’s not ripping string-band rock solos; Dan Bruce – on drums – plays anything he can get his hands on with a steady funky groove; Gen Amsden – on vocals – the one in the band with tattoos, sings with swag way beyond her years, and Steve Meyer – on bass – never smiles, plays folk to jazz with several island groups, and keeps us in and out of time. Oh, and there’s a lot of singing.
