The current trends for employment seem to be heading toward a train wreck.   There is a strong push to lower labor costs as more and more work is being outsourced to lower wage labor pools around the world.  In fact, slavery seems to be on the comeback.  Free trade agreements, although not advertised as such, have lower labor costs as a main goal among others.

Tuesday, May 3rd is a day of inspiration for all.  It’s GiveBIG Day-- the one-day online event when donors can give to all their favorite non-profits at once and every donation is “stretched” by The Seattle Foundation.

Lately there has been a foofaraw about where transgender people go to the bathroom. When we think about flexibility in yoga, we tend to think about the physical aspects. Are our hips open enough so that we can we take our knee to the side in tree pose? Do we have enough flexibility in our hamstrings to touch our toes in a forward bend? This physical side of the benefits of yoga is magnificent, but I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the spiritual, mental and emotional benefits of flexibility that yoga has brought to my life.

A while back it occurred to me that my days needed some organization.
I sat down with pen and paper, ruler and colored pencils, and drew my week. I listed when I get up, and when I go to bed, and then I listed everything in between through each day of the week. I blocked out the hours and colored in the blocks.

Nine journalism students from Vashon High School will represent our island at the upcoming National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) National High School Journalism Convention in Los Angeles, CA. These journalism students went through a competitive process at VHS, including meeting the minimum 3.5 GPA requirement in Journalism.

I have been pondering lately how little control I have in my life. Sometimes it occurs to me that not being in control is not a personal fault of mine. It is simply the way things are.
