The Tale of Peter Rabbit and The Tale of Benjamin Bunny have delighted children for generations, and are combined in a puppet show to reveal the beloved world of Beatrix Potter. After Peter sneaks into Mr. McGregor’s garden for some delicious vegetables, he realizes that he lost his new blue jacket.  How will he get it back? On a beautiful summer morning the lovable hedgehog, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, merrily journeys to the fir tree home of Mrs. Rabbit. She is delivering the freshly washed clothes of Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter.

Fire your imagination at an evening of dance featuring the latest works from four exciting choreographers. Each contributes an original work, snapshots of the varied voices of the contemporary dance world.

Dialogues des Carmelites, by Francis Poulenc, stands essentially alone in the catalogue of operas performed by major opera companies. It’s almost completely devoid of standard operatic plot devices—romance, betrayal, intrigue, infidelity. In their stead are a series of life-or-death decisions forced on several young women, set amid the last few weeks of the Reign of Terror, the most brutal months of the French Revolution.

Open Space for Arts & Community invites you to fly with us, at our sixth annual Open Air - a light, bright, outdoor aerial festival with a splash of circus and magic in the meadow. Bask in the sun, enjoy the view of Mount Rainier, lean back and fly in your imagination watching fabulous aerialists from the Northwest and beyond.

The Echosphere is something of an acoustical wonder. It is a 68’ inflatable sphere with 1000 sf floor space and an echo that hits you before you can enunciate. Inside the sphere, singers and musicians can play in an environment that emulates to others inside the full body experience of creating sound. Event Producer Cyra Jane of asiren productions has arranged to bring this otherworldly venue to the lawn at Open Space on the evening of June 25th, and she is inviting you to play and to immerse yourself in the resonance of sound and light.

Classically trained in ballet, tap and modern, more than 200 dancers studying at the VCA Center for Dance present a robust, beautiful evening of dance in the inaugural season at the Katherine L White Hall.

Guest pianist William Kirkpatrick plays Chopin selections to accompany advanced students performing Dancers at a Gathering. “I am thrilled to kick off our first performance at ‘The Kay’ with non-narrative ballet originally choreographed by Jerome Robbins,” says Director of Dance Christine Juarez.

The Vashon Island ShakesKIDS! present KING LEAR at First Friday Art Walk at Spoke Gallery along with artwork inspired by King Lear and generated by the company.

VAA Center for Dance “Original Works” returns this March. Previously part of the VAA Center for Dance Spring Recital, Original Works stands as its own production for the third year in a row.

From roving giant puppets to puppet and comedy shows, Vashon Island’s Zambini Brothers are a versatile and always entertaining troupe of puppeteers and artists. The puppets are handmade from papier-mâché and unusual materials, making every character unique, beautiful and engaging.

In our lifelong pursuit of work and mediocrity we often lose sight of the little weird pleasantries that punctuate our brief tenures on this planet. In recent years this problem has become so severe that, as a society, we have offshored the job of silly-seeker to those already employed in the fine art of explaining to you what it is you are experiencing when you are experiencing Life. Thus, the comedian wears two hats (but no underwear).

On December 4, 5 and 6, VAA Center for Dance presents its annual Nutcracker at Vashon High School Theater. This production features more than 50 dancers, showcasing five graduating seniors. New choreography includes the Arabian Princess danced by senior Hannah Van Dusen, the Spanish Dance with senior male dancers Quinn McTighe and Josiah Sprute-Boyajian, the Russian Dance with senior Rayanna Weller, and a Sugar Plum Fairy split cast with Sally Walker and Tess Mueller. A holiday tradition at your fingertips!

The Nutcracker

On the weekend of November 20 – 22, Vashon Allied Art’s Youth Musical Theater program will be presenting the new musical, The Snow Queen, based on the story by Hans Christian Anderson, at the Vashon United Methodist Church. There will be 3 shows – Friday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7 PM and Sunday, Nov. 22 at 4 PM. 16 students will perform onstage and Lizzie Staehli (also a student) will design and run lights and the power point slides.
