This concert is an expanded version of a house concert where attendees come together to enjoy their friends and family, and hear local and traveling Musicians up close and personal. The next concert is Lil’ Rev. It will be at the Vashon Theatre Sunday, March 18th, between 2-4 pm. Lil’ Rev hails from Wisconsin, and is a master musician.

The Salish Sea Early Music Festival presents A Broken Consort, the second of five Vashon Island 2012 Salish Sea Early Music Festival performances and an exploration of renaissance music on period instruments with Jeffrey Cohan, renaissance tenor and bass transverse flutes, Shula Kleinerman on the off-the-shoulder renaissance violin and John Lenti, renaissance lute on Thursday, February 9 at 7:30 PM at Vashon United Methodist Church at 17928 Vashon Highway SW.

Travelling the world with his guitar, harmonicas, and engaging wit, he sings the traditional songs of Scotland and his own masterfully crafted songs in a style which is modern and accessible, yet utterly authentic. He is highly regarded as an interpreter of the songs of Robert Burns, and has been described as "one of the finest singers in Scotland in any style".

The second annual 2012 Salish Sea Early Music Festival presents five programs of early chamber music on period instruments on Vashon Island on Thursday evenings through May featuring some of the most accomplished performers on period instruments from around the country and Europe. We hope you’ll join us!

Seattle-based Threshold is a group of five seasoned pro rock musicians who are ardent fans of The Moody Blues. Developing and honing the act has been a multi-year labor of love that culminated with Threshold’s debut in February,2011. The band is very excited to publicly celebrate their overwhelming enthusiasm for the enduring Moody Blues whose seminal work "Nights In White Satin" recently charted for an unprecedented 4th time

Sarah Christine was born and raised in the beautiful green state of Washington and makes her home on Vashon Island. She gains much influence and inspiration from the mountains, evergreens and everchanging bodies of water which surround her. Sarah’s style of music is a blend of folk, soul and reggae interwoven with conscious lyrics and uplifting positivity.

Vashon Chamber Music commemorates Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday in a spiritually-themed program, Sunday, January 15, 3 p.m., at the Methodist Church.

Third in the 2011-12 Concert Series, the all star ensemble will play the Bach cantata, "Ich habe genug," (I have enough) for baritone, oboe and strings. The program will also include pieces by living composers from Estonia (Pärt) and Latvia (Pelecis).

One More Mile is a band that came together over the passion of playing real blues and making the blues real!

Guitarists Jason Lollar and Tommy Bean both have been playing since they could walk, and ever since Tommy saw Lollar performing with a band he had put together called Shakey Jake, he knew he would get together with him one day.

If you happened to go to the Church of Great Rain show last February, you saw an amazing band perform called Publish The Quest. They were responsible for a lot of bodies moving in chairs that night and sold a lot of CD’s because of it. Then they blew the roof off the Bike at the Halloween show this year.

Scott McDougall is a noble, little grizzly with precious old time wisdom. His songs of travel, discovery, and perseverance will purify your every day lifestyle and ring adventure when driving home from another day at the office. As the bush bearded, road wrenched McDougall quietly sits down at his humble set up: kick drum, hi-hat, harmonica and simple stringed instruments, the fans making up his growing national following begin taking turns shouting "McDougall!" Once the banjo begins . . . everyone moves. I’ll bet a hundred bucks you can’t stand still through a McDougall set, seriously.

Soul Senate is a 7-piece, high-energy, adrenaline-inducing, audience-oriented, original soul/funk party powerhouse.

Bridging the decidedly funky sounds of the 60s & early 70s--such as the Meters, Stevie Wonder, and the Stax label of Memphis--with a distinct modern sound in the vein of Raphael Saadiq, Alice Russell, Eli Paperboy Reed, and the New Mastersounds; Soul Senate claims their own musical territory with booty shaking grooves, well-crafted arrangements, sizzling horns, and memorable instrumentals and vocal songs.

True story: Two guys debated as to whether the music they were hearing was a Led Zeppelin cd or an actual band playing live music in the studio next door. A bet was made, hands were shook. One guy made off with some easy money. He had heard the band practice last week. And so it goes, with The Crunge-ing Black Dogs.

Trumpeter Thomas Marriott is one of the most exciting musicians to emerge on the national jazz scene in more than a decade. The seven-time Golden Ear award winner is a skilled instrumentalist, composer and producer, always seeking to expand the boundaries of jazz music in all its forms.

After winning the prestigious Carmine Caruso Jazz Trumpet Competition in 1999, Marriott headed east from Seattle to New York where he gained initial acclaim through his work with Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau band.

The Vashon Island Chorale presents "Dona Nobis Pacem - Grant Us Peace" with concerts at Bethel Church on Saturday, Dec. 3, 7:30pm and Sunday, Dec. 4, 3:00pm. Under the direction of Gary D. Cannon, Artistic Director, the program features songs of the holiday season and Dona Nobis Pacem a masterwork by Ralph Vaughan Williams with soloists Jennifer Krikawa and Andrew Krikawa. The Signature Brass Quintet also will perform along with a full orchestra under the direction of Karin Choo.

Cascadia ‘10 is the echo of Afrobeat in the Pacific Northwest--a sound resonating from Nigeria to the Emerald City. They are a small army of 11 experienced musicians, bringing hypnoticly funky music to hips and feet where ever they go. They have opened for national acts, such as Garaj Mahal, and they will be recording a live radio broadcast for KEXP in May, which will be available for download this Summer.

Weird Load was formed in the early ‘90’s as an offshoot road-ready version of Captain Dick and the Portholes.

Fronted by the guitar and vocals of Chris Craggs, the group became an instant favorite from Vashon to Southeast Alaska. Craggs is known for his wild versions of slightly obscure covers, as well as crafty originals.

Islander and Series Co-Artistic Director Rowena Hammill, will play cello. Guest musicians include violinist Victoria Parker, Pianist Cristina Valdes and violist Heather Bentley. Composer Alex Shapiro will be hand to talk about her piece at Friday’s performance.

Greta Matassa Quartet will perform Saturday, Nov.12, 8 pm in VAA Panache Jazz Series for Island audiences. Mega-talented jazz singer Matassa, touted as ‘a marvel of virtuosity’ by the Los Angeles Times returns tp Vashon for a much awaited encore. Joining her on stage will be one of the Northwest’s finest pianist and keyboard artists, Darin Clendenin, on of the region’s leading bassists Clipper Anderson and versatile freelance drummer/percussionist Mark Ivester. She will perform music from her latest CD I Wanna Be Loved and take listener requests.

Avaaza, (Ah-Va-ZAH) derived from "Avaaz" the Persian word for "voice," is the newest world music ensemble to emerge from the vibrant music scene on Vashon Island will have their much-anticipated debut at the Red Bicycle Bistro on November 11th at 9:00.

Amrita will perform Kirtan at the Puget Sound Zen Center on November 12th at 7:30 PM. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 and all are welcome.

"World Kirtan is the singing of sacred songs from around the globe as well as the traditional sanskrit from the Hindu tradition," said bandleader, Carol Lutra-Johns. "We are bringing the World of sacred chants to the island, creating community, harmony and joyful self-expression celebrating the Divine within and without," she added. 

Vashon Allied Arts’ 2011-2012 Chamber Music Series begins its third season thanks to the unerring artistic vision of Island cellists Rowena Hammill and Douglas Davis and chamber music fans who clamor for more. The opening concert, Friday, October 7, showcases Beethoven’s immortal masterpiece for piano trio "Beethoven Archduke Trio," with Stephen Bryant on violin, Douglas Davis on cello and Allan Dameron on piano. The celebrated piece, written during Beethoven’s "middle" period (1803 to 1814) was considered to be among his finest compositions.

Minnesota native Tim Fast knew in third grade that he wanted to be a performer after he and three other buddies mimicked the words and music to the Beatles' song "Nowhere Man" for show-and -tell. For 20 years he put together bands and played shows from the Midwest to California until he decided to go it alone.

Rooted in the Pacific NW, they are a unique cooperative seeding musical expression by branching out through community networking to provide a platform of support and direction for aspiring artists.
