Vashon-Maury Chamber Orchestra presents its fall concert at 7:30 pm on Saturday, November 23 at the Vashon United Methodist Church. The orchestra, led by Music Director and Concertmaster Karin Choo, will present a 20th-Century first half including Concerto per Archi by Italian composer Nino Rota (best known for his famous film scores including The Godfather, War and Peace and the 1968 Romeo and Juliet) and a collection of songs by American composer Jerome Kern. In anticipation of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, the orchestra’s second half will feature Mozart’s Divertimento K.251 and a triple violin concerto from Telemann’s Tafelmusik Volume II. Telemann’s Tafelmusik (Table Music) and Mozart’s Divertimenti were written as entertainment for banquets and other social occasions, and it is fitting that the audience will be invited to enjoy a selection of desserts along with tea and coffee during the second half. For Mozart’s Divertimento K.251 the orchestra will be joined by Island oboist Irene Alexander Tokar and horn players Richard Reed (also a Vashon resident) and Becky Miller, who performed a Mozart horn concerto with the orchestra last season. The Telemann triple violin concerto will feature Island violinists Danielle McCutcheon and Choo, along with Seattle violinist Cecilia Archuleta.
