VAA Family Series

Bill Harley
Grammy award winning musician Bill Harley performs Sunday, March 3 at VAA.

Two-time Grammy award winner Bill Harley, from Seekonk, Massachusetts, shares family storytelling and songs with Vashon audiences of all ages, Sunday, March 3, 1:30 p.m., at Vashon Allied Arts. Harley paints a vibrant and hilarious picture of growing up, schooling and family life, with wonderful spontaneity. From his large repertoire, he selects songs and stories just right for the moment. "Harley’s audiences are families but it’s hard to tell who enjoys him more - parents or children," said the Los Angeles Times.

Harley says, "I’ve been entertaining families and kids for twenty-five years – long enough to see the second generation of kids come along. ‘My mom grew up listening to you,’ is a comment I’m getting more and more, which is scary, but gratifying, too. I think good material ought to work on a couple of different levels – something for each segment of the audience I work with. At the heart of it is an effort to honor the emotional lives of people in a family and show it in a way that everybody can see and relate to. I love the notion that all people can be entertained together. There are times when I look out in the audience and see that we’re all sharing in something together, and I’m the catalyst for that. It is very rewarding."
