VAA exhibits Masters in Miniature

Big Kahuna by Morgan Brig

Blue Heron Gallery will host the 5th annual Miniature Show and showcase over 100 pieces by 40 Island artists. Mediums will include wood, painting, mixed media, photography, fiber, clay and more—with one catch, all pieces must be under 50 sq. inches for 2-D work and no bigger than 6 in. x 6 in. x 6 in. for 3-D work. Artists will each show one to five pieces.

Co-curators, Janice Mallman and Carol Schwennesen collaborated, as they have from the inception, on this exhibition. "When Carol and I started this, little did we know we would do it again, much less five years in a row," exclaims Mallman. "Between the artists-who love the challenge-and the art collectors, who have been so supportive, the miniature show has become a much anticipated annual gallery event."

First time participants in the Miniature Show are: Margie Amstrup, Jan-Eric Schafer, Jane Neubauer, Tom Northington, Tami Anderson, Mike Devoe, Mary M. Briggs, Sheila Park, John Martin, Lisa Guy, Don Glaister, Rondi Lightmark and Peter Serko.

"I like the idea of involving so many artists and presenting the challenge of going beyond their comfort zone," adds Mallman.
