Spotlight on...EnhanceFitness

Maybe you’re realizing you need to stop the winding down of your strength and energy levels. Perhaps balance is becoming more of a concern. You might even begin to perceive that your independence depends on keeping these body systems operating well! "EnhanceFitness" is an award-winning national program and the most studied and successful exercise system in the US. It was developed by and for seniors with much feedback from participants. Sponsored by the YMCA, which supplies training and certification for class leaders, it includes oversight by master trainers as well as annual training updates.

EnhanceFitness (EF) begins with warm-up movements and stretching, then cardio to music from the 30s to the 70s. Participants then move on to perform strength training exercises using bands, ankle and hand weights (optional). Cool-down is performed with yoga-like stretches or Tai Chi. Balance practice is incorporated into all of these phases. Perhaps the greatest aspect of this program is that most of the exercises are easily modified to varying needs. Participants work at their own pace, increasing balance, flexibility, strength and resilience.

Expert instructor Mo Brule has studied many other exercise programs for seniors and is satisfied that EF is the most well-rounded routine for maintaining well-being with age. With Mo’s leadership, this class is fun and social with participants developing friendships that carry over beyond the class time. "It’s a great way to enhance well-being and enjoyment of life", says Mo. "Come check us out. Your first class is FREE!"
