Seattle based group Rouge will open Vashon’s free Summer Concerts in the Park series, 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, June 23, at Ober Park. Co sponsored by Vashon Park District and Vashon Allied Arts, this free Thursday night tradition brings together family and friends with lawn chairs and picnics to enjoy community evenings in the Park for a variety of musical offerings. This first concert in the series will include lots of love and kudos for VPD volunteers and rumor has it there may be cake.
Together for over a decade, Rouge will delight and entertain with their traditionally based music and unexpected improvisations. From Edith Piaf to Pink Martini, Rouge bring passion and playfulness to their renditions of famous and obscure French tunes that will have children dancing, couples kissing and hearts opening!
Comprised of internationally touring musicians Steve Rice, Ruthie Dornfeld, Janet Rayor, Carey Black and Julian Catford, their vocals, violin, accordion, guitar and double bass make the ensemble irresistibly listenable. “We love to play on Vashon,” exclaims Rayor.
