High Winds and power outages started off the Thanksgiving week on Vashon Island. Just as Vason Islanders were going about their afternoon, several power outages were reported across the island.
Power outages were reported starting at 1:21 around Vashon Island. Puget Sound Energy reported that about 5000 homes were without power during the peak of the outage. However the main Vashon town was unaffected.
Patti McClements at PSE reports power was restored on the South end of Vashon Island around 3pm, and crews were working to restore service to the rest of the Island as well as Maury.
The cause of the outage on Vashon was discovered around 4 pm. It was a downed cross country transmission pole. Crews are currently working to make system switching changes to restore power to the remaining customers
without power. *The Estimated* restoration time is currently 5:00 p.m.
There may be some isolated outages remaining once the majority have been restored. Customers who remain without power this evening are encouraged to contact PSE at 1-888-225-5773 to report their outage.
Those who are returning to the island from jobs on the mainland are advised to check electronics, appliances and pets who may have been effected by an afternoon power outage.
