Laugh for a Good Cause

The DoVE Project Hosts “Comedy Night”

Vashon and Seattle residents are encouraged to spend a night together laughing for a cause that is no laughing matter: Domestic Violence. The DoVE Project, Vashon’s only on-island domestic violence organization, will host a Comedy Night at the O Space beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Featuring Seattle’s own Peggy Platt and Lisa Koch as Dos Fallopia, the MC’s for the evening are Tami Brockway Joyce and Jennifer Sutherland, a.k.a. the Washington State Fairies, now known as The Famous Filson Sisters. Additional acts include Duo Finelli, Chip & Margie, Monica Nevi, Vashon Hysterical Society, Cara Rosellini and Best Seat in the House. More surprises will be announced!

According to Diane Kjellberg, DoVE’s Board President and VARSA Co-Chair, the organization fills a critical need in the island community.

"Domestic Violence affects women and men from all walks of life," Kjellberg says. "With the isolation of island living, often those in need feel physically and psychologically isolated from avenues of support. The DoVE Project fills this important role on Vashon Island."

With Comedy Night, we hope to unite the community with a fun evening and raise awareness of this issue, Kjellberg continued. All proceeds from the event benefit The DoVE Project’s advocacy efforts for domestic violence survivors, and community outreach and education efforts to prevent and raise awareness of the cause.

Tickets are $35 and available online at BrownPaperTickets.com, at the Vashon Bookshop and at the door. The event is adults only; there will be a no-host bar.

The O Space is located at 18870 23rd Ave. SW on Vashon Island. Sponsors include Vashon Women’s Health Center, Dragon’s Head Cider, True Value Vashon , Island Home Center and Lumber, John L.
