The Ides of march Comedy Show – Headliner: Owen Straw

Beware! Comedy Night Returns on the Ides of March.

The Ides of March really just means March 15th. It gained infamy in 44 B.C. when Julius Caeser was assassinated by Mitch McConnell. The unintended consequence of Caesar’s murder (meant to reestablish the senate as the primary executive branch of the government) was an even stronger consolidation of power in the executive branch and the ascendancy of Octavian, the first Roman Emperor. Take that, Senator-murderers.

Isn’t Life kind of like that? You kill a guy for a seemingly good reason and then something bad happens? Like, maybe someone steals your car or you go to jail. Now, think about how hard February sucks. Think about how cold and wet you are and when its all over, what happens? March! March sucks too. Its basically the same thing as February, but longer.

There’s nothing we can do about it; the earth is simply too big for humans to maneuver it so that the northern hemisphere always tilts toward the sun.

So what can we do? We can gather in public spaces and listen to funny people. Join us for the upcoming Comedy Night, where terrified newcomers, seasoned locals and professional comedians are thrown together into a mix as unpredictable as the weather in a place where the weather is unpredictable. Each show is headlined by a professional comedian honed into fighting shape by the relentless grind of touring the country and telling the same jokes over and over until they are ripe.

Come on down and get a first look at next year’s up-and-comers and today’s Pros and get some of that ripe comedy juice all over your face. Napkins, dinner and drink available during the show.

The headliner for this show is none other than Owen Straw…no stranger to Vashon, he has performed at the Red Bike once before and is excited to be back.

Emerging from the burgeoning Seattle stand-up comedy scene, Owen Straw’s comedic style of absurdist literalism has been capturing the hearts of audiences for years. Bringing a unique energy and deceptive intelligence to his bizarre jokes, Straw’s act weaves from quick one liners to real life stories about failure and heartbreak and sometimes a sing-a-long.

Owen Straw has won championships in pizza eating and semi-professional wrestling, released several punk rock records, created the World Extreme Pencil Fighting Championships, and appeared in movies and television, including the Daytime Emmy winning PBS series BizKid$.

Also on the bill are local comedians Jim Farrell, Per Lars Blomgren, Erik Lundeen and Mark Johnston.

Cover charge is $7, and the show starts at 8pm, but show up early and get a seat, because it is always packed! (Also note, that children may be altered in unknown ways as a result of exposure to Comedy Night. If you feel they need to be altered, you may want to bring them. Just sign the liability release at the door.)

See you then and there. Saturday, March 15, 8pm.
