Homegrown Mirth & Music at The Vashon Theatre

The Vashon comedy collective known as Plan V will present an afternoon of comedy and song at the Vashon Theatre on Sunday, April 28 at 4PM. Join in the hoopla, high jinx and hilarity for the premiere performance of
Vashon Island’s brand new comedy show!

Some of the Island’s wackiest residents have been searching for a way to legally have fun in public while staging weird and wonderful sketches, original songs, spoken word pieces and showcasing special guest artists.

Performer Jeanne Dougherty is excited about the new ensemble. "Plan V is a group of talented Islanders who are creating a show of homegrown humor, songs, comedy sketches, clowns, video, and true stories. We’re a troupe of familiar Island performers seeking a unique way to celebrate our community with comedy. Many of us have written and performed with Church of Great Rain and other Island shows so some aspects of this new production may seem familiar but it will be it’s own beast."

Karen du Four des Champs, another Plan V actor, talks about the show’s evolution. "We went from Plan A to Plan B to Plan V and found an edgy style along the way. The plan is to have a great time and bring a smiling audience along for a wild ride. Come laugh with us!"

Special guest Duo Finelli will be there, and the ensemble is buzzed about Bill Wood teaching everyone to sing "Mary Jane", the follow up hit to his Island anthem "Keep Vashon Weird". Bill is a former Hollywood screenwriter and has just broadcast his 300th Jazz Guy Show on VoiceOfVashon.org.

Veteran actor Paul Shapiro has stepped up to direct the Plan V show. Shapiro is the founder of Vashon’s Shakespeare on the Green, was a professional circus clown and has appeared in theater productions nation-wide. Paul, sharing his wry take on the production, says "Vashon is so lucky to have such talented and funny folks in our midst. I heard there was a tour bus coming over from Ballard for the show to get a more humorous perspective on life. The ferry has even ordered lutefisk for the occasion."

The multi-talented Jon Whalen is bringing comic acting, singing and sound effects to the show. He recently produced his own concert called One Lucky Guy that showcased six Island female vocalists, took the stage in Drama Dock’s "Rocky Horror Show" and acted, wrote and created sound effects for Church of Great Rain. Jon says he’s ready for a new comedy show. "We have been wandering in the wilderness, stumbling over rumble-strips and now that we’ve touched-down once again on good ol’ Vay-shawn Island, we’re mostly looking for a crowd to surf!"
Adrienne Selvy Mildon, piano teacher and keyboard player for many Island bands says "After the wonderful collaboration with Jon, Lyn McManus, Arlette Moody and others for the One Lucky Guy concert, I know this will be another love fest of creative Vashon talent." Adrienne says she’s thrilled to be working on a new song arrangement for The Twisted Sisters to perform.
Special guest Duo Finelli is a vaudeville-style comedy team, performing music, comedy, and circus. These two ladies specialize in bright and irreverent comedy with a rhythmic absurdity. Luz Gaxiola plays accordion, and Molly Shannon plays ukulele as well as dances and performs circus feats. They recently relocated from San Francisco to Vashon Island to develop new work for touring.
Cast members say the show contains adult themes so parental guidance is advised or you may have some explaining to do. Even though the show poster features a classic portrait of Thalia, the Muse of Comedy partially clad, the cast would like to assure everyone there will be no nudity. However, souls may be bared for the sake of humor they say.
Plan V Homegrown Mirth & Music will take the stage at The Vashon Theatre on Sunday, April 28 at 4PM. Tickets are $10 and are available at The Vashon Theatre, Vashon Bookshop and Brown Paper Tickets.
