Herky Cutler

Those who attend should prepare to play a percussion instrument Cutler will provide. Herky Cutler was born in Montreal and now makes his home in Alberta, Canada. He’s played guitar since he was 19, but more "in the closet" than out until 1992. That’s when Cutler made his performance debut. He’s since added the harmonica, bass and percussion to his repertoire and started writing songs in 1993. Once he played before a live audience in 1992, Cutler was hooked. Five years later, he co-founded "Prairie Fusion," a band that became legendary in the region. The group rocked Southern Alberta for eight years, playing anywhere and everywhere. Prairie Fusion was known for quality performances featuring three-part harmony, outstanding guitar-playing by Francis Krizan and a sound that people could dance to as well as listen to. Prairie Fusion has been lovingly put to rest, and Cutler has been a solo performer for two years, playing in lounges, coffee houses, folk clubs and private events. His songwriting has evolved to the point where he feels comfortable playing his tunes for audiences and knowing that eventually others may want to record them. When Cutler does shows now, he always tries to engage the audience by bringing percussion instruments for them so they can get involved and play along. He finds the energy coming from them is much more meaningful when they are an active part of the process. Cutler writes songs that are a blend of folk, rock, blues and country, sprinkled here and there with hints of jazz, Celtic and Latin flavors. He writes about what inspires him, makes him laugh, and anything else that he thinks will work.
