The 2013 Barn Dance!

Vashonites and visitors, dancers and toe-tappers, you all are invited to dust off your boots, get out your crinolines, and kick up your heels at the 2013 Barn Dance! The music starts at 7pm on Saturday, October 19. Vashon’s Poultry in Motion has been let loose from the Coop and promises a night full of Cajun Two-Steppin’, Rock and Roll, and Spontaneous Square Dancing (which is the very best kind, isn’t it?)
 
Poultry in Motion has been in existence (if you count their traveling softball team campaigns) for about 900 years. They started out playing in vacant lots, alleys, and transfer stations for tips. Later they fell to empty trash bins and old car lots for pigeon food. It wasn’t until a shining light came onto the island in the form of Christopher Anderson, that they actually found legitimate gigs... for which we are forever grateful. Just who makes up this infamous Poultry in Motion? The handsomest bunch of fellas you could ever hope to meet:
 
Steve "Everywhere" Amsden, the master of guitar, banjo, mandolini, other guitar, and tupperware. Steve drifted onto the shores of Vashon during a storm and immediately joined every band there. He wins all the awards for band attendance.
 
Wilson Abbott drives the Dobro bus. His interest in electronics is demonstrated by the fact that he has 100 different gizmos plugged into his lap steel... they all light up and look really cool (even if no one knows what they do).
 
Bob Kueker is on bass guitar and bass vocals – plus he likes to fish for bass and plays first base on the softball team. The bass/base is his destiny. It is rumored that his collection of electric bass memorabilia goes back to the middle ages.
 
Dave Lang is the player of accordion, 2nd accordion, 3rd accordion, fiddle, and mandolin. Dave is master of the quick change between songs, and famous for putting the most syllables in the words "fer what". Listen closely – Dave sings incomprehensible words to cajun songs… guess what they are and you might just win a prize.
 
Gib Damman is the Drummer. He’s a former member of that band, that one band, and played with, you know, that guy… and he was at Woodstock the year BEFORE the famous festival. Gib makes drum sticks into toothpicks as a hobby.
 
Chris Anderson: Guitar, blatherer, rides on Wilson Abbott’s bus… Chris is owner and proprietor of roadhouse dive known as "The Coop". He is wanted in several counties for playing major chords instead of minor ones.
 
And if that’s not all, Poultry is bringing along some mighty fine guest artists! Miss Charmaine Slaven from the Seattle band The Tallboys will be along for some square dance calling, and Miss Melanie Salonen and Mr. Ben Lang from The Riptide Ramblers are also coming along to play.
 
All in all, it looks to be a lot of square dancin’, two-steppin’, shakin’ and shimmyin’ fun.
