This year’s Bioblitz, organized by Vashon Nature Center, explored Maury Island parks and preserves for a 24-hour species marathon with scientists, naturalists, and local community members discovering as many species as possible in one full day and night. From arthropods, and sea lions to lichens, voles, and rare marbled murelettes, hear about this year’s amazing finds, learn about Maury Island’s unique ecology, and enjoy superb photos of our island’s flora and fauna presented by Vashon Nature Center Director Bianca Perla. This year’s field count came in at 408 species, the highest ever for a Vashon Bioblitz.
