Vashon Farmers Market Moving Indoors Nov 12 - Dec 10th

The Vashon Farmers Market is moving into the warm and dry Vashon High School Commons beginning November 12 through December 10, 2011. Besides offering shelter from the weather, this central location also offers ample parking. The Farmers Market had great success holding the final two markets of 2010 in the VHS Commons, so we look forward to even greater results by conducting the last four markets at this location. More than 35 farmers and crafters will participate in these final markets.

Here is an overview of what is coming up for the rest of the season:

Nov. 12th: 10 am to 2 pm
Eat local this Thanksgiving! The market offers a wide variety of beautiful fall produce for your holiday gatherings from pumpkins, squash and apples to an excellent array of root veggies. Stock up on local eggs and fresh or smoked fish. Gift local this holiday, too! Our island artisans and crafters offer beautiful handmade creations. During this special market day, many of our artisans will offer demonstrations of their craft. Check out the "Side Show" cooking demos of side dishes made from local produce for your holiday table. Enjoy hot coffee from Minglement, as well as delicious goodies from the VHS Band Booster Bake Sale. The market will feature live music from The Starlings, an Americana duo from Seattle from 11 to 1.

Nov. 19th: 10 am to 2 pm
This is your last chance to shop the market for your Thanksgiving table. Start a really special holiday tradition this year...eat local and support our Island’s farmers. We have an excellent selection of produce from delicious tradition potatoes and cooking pumkins to equally delicious unusual veggies such as celeriac and sunchokes, plus local eggs and fresh or smoked fish. Enjoy live music from the Rock Island Ramblers from 11 to 2 pm. The market will also offer hot coffee and goodies from the VYFS Bake Sale.

Pumpkin Pie Contest!
There are two categories: Traditional Pie and Non-Pie Dessert.
Submit your entries by 11:30 am. Judging will be held from 11:30 to 12:15 and the winners will be announced at 12:30. Extra points are awarded for entries that use local ingredients.

After the winners are announced, slices of all entries will be sold to raise money for VIGA’s Food Stamp Matching Bucks program, that helps Island familes purchase healthy, local foods and brings additional funds to our Island’s farmers.
