Trip the Light on Art

"Trip the Light on Art," Harbor School’s 14th Annual Benefit Auction, is a celebration of Harbor School’s New Arts Initiative! This exciting new curriculum, proposed by islander and art educator Anita Halstead, will focus on integrating art concepts and principles into the school’s core academic subjects. Additionally, there will be lessons in drama, dance, music and the visual arts. To support this effort, Harbor School will create a new studio art space on campus, "a dedicated arts space where messes can be made, and where ongoing projects do not have to be cleaned up each day," according to the strategic plan. Money raised during the auction’s special appeal, will help kick start this vision.

The auction itself will feature an interactive student art gallery, donated pieces by on- and off-island artists, and a "Taste of Vashon" dinner featuring the culinary arts of Express Cuisine, La Boucherie, Nirvana, May Kitchen, and Casa Bonita. Nationally acclaimed light designer, Stageworks, will provide projected light art and décor, favorite auctioneer Kevin Joyce will preside, and a short film by EnJoy Productions will be screened.

Beside a lot of great art, there will also be a myriad of other silent auction offerings. A surprise Silent Auction is also in the works, unlike anything most auction goers have seen in years past!

To get the ball rolling, Harbor School will hold a free Art Preview Party at the home of current Harbor School parents Mike and Gretchen Spranger, March 15th at 7:00 PM. Drinks, appetizers and good conversation will be the order of the night, with many of the donating artists there to meet, greet and answer questions. For more information and to RSVP to the Art Preview Party, email Gretchen at gretchens@centurytel.net.

Harbor School’s Annual Benefit Auction attracts over 130 guests from the greater Vashon Island and Seattle communities. Our guests are local philanthropists, business leaders, esteemed community members, island families and friends of the school.
