Summer SUPER FUN at Open Space for Arts & Community!

The Strawberry Games, Straw Fest TEEN DANCE, plus an awesome surprise...

Open Space for Arts & Community jumps into Strawberry Festival fun! For the first time, we are working with Festival Organizers to expand Strawberry Festival activities beyond the traditional town core.

On Friday night, we will host a TEEN DANCE. Featuring Tacoma DJ Michael Fort, and FREE PIZZA, this will be a spot just for teenagers to hang and enjoy. Teens have been flocking to Club O every month, and we’re delighted to give them a dance all their own. Thanks to VARSA for sponsoring this event!

On Saturday and Sunday, our beautiful meadow, with Mount Rainier as a glorious backdrop, turns into an old-fashioned family fun zone… with an Open-Space-inspired modern twist.

Open from 12noon to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, the Strawberry Games will include Frisbee Golf, giant bubble trays, rock-painting table, water balloon tosses, a petting zoon, and old-school games like sack races. We are creating a Mama Tent for mothers and babes to rest, and snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Plus we’ll have some fun extras dropping in - chair massage, dog agility show, and more! AND we are unveiling a brand new summer arts tradition…

Our PopART Putt-Putt Golf Course!

Inspired in part by our Kinetic Art sculpture, created at Open Space in Summer 2012 by artists Jon Carlson and Dave Olson, and by the ever-growing Welcome Arch created by Ken C Judd, PopART-Putt Putt will be unlike anything Vashon has ever seen. Artist teams are creating small-scale, kinetic, interactive sculptures with a Putt-Putt hole in each one. More details coming soon!
