Two brothers lead very different lives on opposite coasts, but when one brother is diagnosed with HIV in 1988, their worlds are immediately drawn together, transforming both men forever. A true story, this original one-man play features Vashon artist-performer Peter Serko, who tells the story of his younger brother David, pursuing his dreams of dancing and acting in New York City in the 1980s, coming of age at the epicenter of the AIDS epidemic.

In early 2012, Peter started The David Serko Project through Facebook to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his brother’s death, hoping to connect with David’s friends and acquaintances from NYC. This resulted in an unexpected wealth of memories, accounts, photos and videos that fleshed out a picture of a rich life filled with art, joy and friendships. Drawing from this archive, Peter paints a picture of one brother yearning to know more about the life of his brother during the years spent apart.

This production explores universal themes of unconditional love, the meaning of friendship, the importance of hope and the enduring power of courage.
