Mother and Daughter Working Together

The paintings on the walls of Vashon Community Care during May and June are a combination of watercolors by Vashon Island artist Geri Peterson and ink Zen Doodles by her daughter Bonnie Bristow.

These paintings are a bridge, between mother and daughter. They hope you will enjoy them.

What makes this art exhibition unique is the combination of two distinct art mediums and styles into one show, and in some cases into a single painting. These paintings are a bridge, woven of light, color, design and love between mother and daughter.

While Geri’s work has shown at VCC many times, this is Bonnie’s premier show.

There will be a First Friday opening at Vashon Community Care on June 7th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. Both artists will be there. Come meet Geri and Bonnie and enjoy the music of Steve Amsden and friends.

Geri Peterson: Geri is a colorist and Vashon Island is where she finds her inspiration for her brilliant watercolors. At age 49 Geri discovered a passion for watercolors while taking an art class just for fun. After retirement from Boeing, she returned to school and graduated with a degree in Art Education. She has been displaying her work on the island ever since.

Bonnie Bristow: To believe she can be an artist has been Bonnie’s dream through her adult life. She loves seeing many different forms of art. As a young girl she loved to draw and paint. After graduating from Vashon High School class of 1981, Bonnie raised two sons and returned school to become a nurse.

This last year while listening to a lecture she had heard many times before, she found herself doodling on her tablet. She sent a copy to her mom Geri. Geri looked at the intricate drawing Bonnie had created and immediately sent a message back that what Bonnie had drawn looked like a popular new art form people call Zen Doodling.

Like her mother, at age 49 Bonnie had found an art form that surprised and pleased her.
