Miss Lucy throws a party at the Heritage Museum

Miss Lucy herself (age 124) will join Vashon’s best pickers on "The Heritage Live Music Stage". The Vashon musicians will play "unplugged" traditional music to entertain guests with at the Museum’s fundraiser, Miss Lucy’s Dinner Friday July 19, from 5:30 till 8. Paul Colwell , Kat Eagleston, Chuck Roehm, Geordie’s Byre, Roger Taylor, Bob’s Your Uncle, The Magpies, and Poultry in Motion and more will be playing covers, heritage tunes, and originals. Songs like "Shenandoah", "Wait for the Wagon", "Yankee Doodle" and such will be sprinkled among other familiar tunes.

For the first time, this Festival weekend, there will be a live music stage behind the Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Museum Saturday afternoon starting at 2p.m. The venue is being tagged as the place to relax with acoustic music and take a break from the Festival crowds. You’ll hear everything from American traditional to Jazz to classical strings under the tents in the peaceful back lawn of the museum.

Saturday, starting at 2p.m. the Heritage Stage and Wine Garden music line up includes Mark Graham and Orville Johnson (both of whom have appeared on Garrison Keilor’s Prairie Home Companion), Todd Zimburg (founder of the Vashon Percussion Camp, director of the Instrumental Music Program and Seattle Academy of Arts and Science, and teacher of Rock, Jazz and World Music at Highline Community College) , Heritage Stage for the Chamber’s Wine Garden, Gaye Detzer and a group of string players playing classical music, and other acts . Wine will be sold by the glass and food will be served by Snapdragon Café.

The Vashon-Maury Island Heritage Museum will be open during both events. Tickets for Friday’s Miss Lucy’s Dinner are available at the Museum and at the Vashon Book Shop.
