Every year, for many, many years, the island community of Vashon has drawn together to make sure that everyone has a merry Christmas, and especially the youngest ones among us. This year is no different. Once again Vashon Kiwanis will work together with all our social service organizations and churches to gather up the names of those who truly need our care.
Already requests for the names of families with children have gone out and by mid November, all the information forms will have been sent to our sponsoring agencies or to Kiwanis post office Box 262.
Collection boxes for new toys, clothes and school supplies will be placed in the usual places (Vashon Pharmacy, Thriftway, True Value, Island Lumber and Vashon Market) on November 25. These will be collected on December 16th and gifts for the children will be picked up by the families on December 18.
Once again we will use the space available at the old auto parts store in the Vashon Market shopping center for our work space and pick up point. Joyce Smith is our volunteer coordinator, and she can be reached at 206-372-5030.
We cannot begin to thank all those on the island that have helped in the past, and who, we know will help again this year. We welcome any form of participation, unwrapped items of new clothes, games, sports items or monetary contributions (which can be used to buy needed items). Our goal is to provide each child in need, warm school outfits , a pair of pajamas, a special toy or sport item and a some school supplies. Please put this on your list of things to do as we near the holiday season.
