The Hunting Ground: Exploring our nation’s problem of rape culture on college campuses

The Vashon DoVE Project and Woman’s Way Red Lodge bring the film “The Hunting Ground” to Vashon Theatre, Tuesday, October 20, 5:30 PM.  Following the screening will be a panel discussion.

Currently one in five college women will be the victim of rape or sexual violence on their campus this year. Rape culture, as evidenced by the recent “Freshman Daughter Drop Off” sign outside a fraternity at a Virginia college campus, is endemic at Ivy League universities, state schools, and small colleges.  Due to institutional cover-ups, perpetrators are not being held accountable.

The Hunting Ground, a 2015 documentary, follows two survivors who take the matter into their own hands, employing Title IX to fight back while sharing their knowledge among a growing network of survivors who refuse to be silenced.
The film is a must see for students preparing for university, anyone who has a child in college or thinking about attending college. Counselors will be on hand for anyone who needs support.

Admission is by donation, $5-$20; no one turned away for lack of funds.  Doors open at 5 PM and the film starts promptly at 5:30.
