“Voyage of Discovery,” Harbor School’s 15th Annual Benefit Auction, is a fun-filled fundraising event that includes a silent and live auction (with an array of fantastic items), sit-down dinner, and a special appeal in support of the school’s Travel Study program.
This year’s event features special guests Tami Brockway-Joyce and Jennifer Sutherland as our hosts for the night. Known to islanders as the Washington State Fairies, Ms. Brockway-Joyce and Ms. Sutherland will be introducing their original creations—the Filson Sisters as they MC the evening. Auctioneer Howard Choder will be on hand for the Live auction.
The auction itself will feature a plethora of destinations and special adventures (to honor Travel Study) as well as many fabulous treasures—original art by renowned artists, Mariner’s tickets, international-themed baskets, theater and event packages, hand-crafted jewelry and crafts, custom artisan furniture, restaurant gift certificates and gourmet dinner events….just to name a few!
The sit-down dinner will be served by Harbor School’s very own alumni and feature the wonderful gourmet cooking of Zamorana and Express Cuisine.
To get the ball rolling, Harbor School will hold a free Auction Preview Party at the home of current Harbor School parents Mike and Gretchen Spranger, March 7 at 7PM. Drinks, appetizers and good conversation will be the order of the night, with many of this year’s auction treasures on display.
Harbor School’s Annual Benefit Auction attracts over 150 guests from the greater Vashon Island and Seattle communities.
Harbor School’s Travel Study Program has been in place since the school was established in 1995. Travel Study at THS provides students with a broader, more enriching curriculum; helps strengthen peer relationships; allows students to experience history first-hand; enhances language skills through immersion in different cultures; and develops critical thinking skills and independence. Travel Study creates global citizens and has inspired Harbor School students after they graduate and become alumni to experience more journeys abroad in high school and college. Harbor School Travel Study has taken students to: New Orleans (service learning/humanities), Eastern Washington (fossil hunting), Portland, OR (green urban travel), Ashland, OR (Shakespeare), Madrid, Spain (Spanish language/cultural immersion), Jamestown/Williamsburg/Yorktown (Colonial History), Guadalajara, Mexico (service learning/cultural immersion), Southwest States (Hopi Tribal Study), and throughout our own state to discover history, explore nature and science, study urban engineering and more.
