Finding Genius in Your Life

Author and mythologist Michael Meade brings his vital blend of storytelling, poetry and discussion to Vashon on Thursday, February 23rd, 7 p.m. at the Vashon United Methodist Church. In this compelling and dynamic evening, Meade explores the original idea of genius: the natural spirit, inner qualities, and unique gifts of a person. This inner spirit in each of us seeks to be known and desires to serve some greater purpose in life.

Meade states, "Our genius calls to us at critical junctures and whenever change is required. Whether younger or older our job is to answer the call. For, enduring happiness can be found more in satisfying one’s inner spirit than in simply finding fame or acquiring a fortune."

A New York native with a razor sharp wit, Meade’s insights are especially valuable since they have been hard won through decades of work in the trenches of mentoring youth, visiting prisons, assisting war veterans and fostering dialogues between genders and races. Through story, poetry and discussion, he is able to find common ground on hostile turf, working with Chicago gangs, in ‘barrios’ in LA, on Native American reservations and with Sudanese refugees.
