On December 3rd, Vashon Island School District Superintendent Michael Soltman hosted King County Executive Dow Constantine for a tour of schools, meetings with principals, and a “round table” discussion with District leaders that included students. Topics that were a focus of discussion included: funding for mental health and suicide prevention services; early intervention services; expansion of early childhood programs; funding for alternative education; and capital improvements to athletic facilities. Constantine shared lunch with members of the Riptide staff and the Vashon High School student body presidents to whom Constantine related stories of his time as Student Body President at West Seattle High School.
