Doors of Opportunity Award

In 1998 Charlie Staadecker started a fund and created an annual award which he named the Doors of Opportunity Award. The idea behind this award is to honor a VISD teacher or staff member who best exemplifies by deed, a true spirit and grit that goes beyond their job description opening doors and maximizing a student’s potential. Since then, 15 VISD employees have won the Doors of Opportunity award which consists of $2000 dollars, $1000 for their personal use and $1000 for their field of work or classroom.
 
The previous award recipients have been: Roxanne Thayer, Mike Kirk, Doug Kloke, Renae Taylor, Jim Dorsey, Martha Woodard, Cornelius Lopez, Cherry Champagne, Shirley Ferris, Mike Scott, Julie Jaffe, Gail Labinski, Harris Levinson, Lance Morgan and Mary Heath. All of them are no longer eligible to receive the award.
 
Starting April 15th, send your emails to doorsofopportunity@vashonptsa.org nominating the VISD teacher, administrator or employee who you think deserves to win and tell us why they deserve the award. All letters and emails from previous years have been filed and are taken into account when someone is nominated again. Nominations are open until May 30th. We are looking forward to hearing from all of you and your reasons why your nominee deserves to win.
